About the Author – Shailla Quadra
Shailla Quadra is an award winning bi-lingual filmmaker, actress and writer. She is simply not the type that sits and waits. She goes for it!
Originally from Brazil, she now resides in Australia, where she has worked alongside some of Australia’s most popular talent, including Luke Arnold (Blacks Sails, Never Tear Us Apart: The Untold Story of INXS), Martin Dingle Wall (Strangerland, Cops LAC) and Nathin Butler (Winners & Losers, General Hospital).
Shailla’s previous film, “Brad Fitt Will Be Mine,” earned her a NYCIFF Best Lead Actress Award nomination. Written, directed and edited entirely by Shailla, the film entered the official selection for the Columbia George International Film Festival, followed by selection at Australia’s largest horror film-festival, A Night of Horror International Film Festival.
“LOVE SOCKS” her most recent work, first feature film as a Writer-Director-Producer-Actress-Editor, got nominated for the Best Comedy Award at the NYCIFF; won The Triangle Award at the Columbia George International Film Festival; was also official selection at the Sydney Indie Film Festival, Singapore World International Film Festival; and won the Best Comedy Feature Award at the Florida Movie Festival.
Her previous credits as Writer-Director-Producer-Actress-Editor of various short films include; “BREATHING” (A Night of Horror International Film Festival Official Selection, Newtown Flicks Film Festival), “TRULY COOL” (Best Audience Winner at the Sunday Offerings Session at the Newtown Flicks Film Festival), “BRAZILIAN GONE BRITISH”, and many more.
Shailla is passionate about helping artists achieve their career goals. Her biggest influence as a filmmaker is Robert Rodriguez. After reading his book “Rebel Without a Crew,” she always reminds herself – “If he can do it – I can do it.”
Believing strongly that when you want something from the bottom of your heart, you have to go for it and do whatever it takes, as long as you’re doing the right things of course, it doesn’t matter how many new skills you have to learn and sharpen, just do it.
She is very passionate about inspiring others and she is a strong believer that we all have within us the power to achieve everything we want in life, independent of where we came from, or what happened in the past, as long as we keep the light within our hearts, look towards the future and always have faith in ourselves, no matter what, we must keep believing, keep going and keep doing great work, rising from the ashes again and again, only then we can make the world a better place.
She is all about going the extra miles that takes to reach all goals in life.
In 2015 she founded the Sydney Indie Film Festival, the biggest indie film festival in Australia, which between 2015 and 2019 screened nearly 600 films between the very short films and feature films from around the world, welcomed filmmakers from around the world to Sydney, and were consistently voted Top 100 Film Festival in the world at the top of the list at the biggest film festival database FilmFreeway. https://filmfreeway.com/SydneyIndieFilmFestival
